Award Ceremony for national record holders in freediving in 2015

On the 3rd of February 2016, Aida Cyprus organized the annual dinner and cutting of Vasilopita for its members and friends.


The evening included award ceremony and offering of trophies, to the athletes who have succeeded national records in 2015.


Giorgos Oxinos STA 6:12 (A discipline in which the freediver holds his breath for as long as possible with his nose and mouth immersed in the water, floating on the surface or standing on the bottom of a pool.)

Panagiotis Antoniou DYN 160 m (The freediver swims horizontally underwater as far as possible in a swimming pool. Any propulsion aids, other than fins or a monofin and swimming movements with the arms, are prohibited.)

Giorgos Oxinos DYN no fins 140 m (The freediver travels in a horizontal position underwater, in the swimming pool attempting to cover the greatest possible distance using a modified breaststokes. Propulsion aids of any sort are prohibited.)

Pavlos Kourtellas CWT 72 m (The freediver reaches maximum depth with the use of fins/monofin and/or with the use of his arms.)

Evi Holroyd FIM 35 m (The freediver dives under water, in depth, without the use of propulsion equipment (fins) but uses the rope to pull to descend and ascend.)

Pavlos Kourtellas FIM 62 m (The freediver dives under water, in depth, without the use of propulsion equipment (fins) but uses the rope to pull to descend and ascend.)

Giorgios Panagiotakis – World Champion 2015, DYN with fins 280 m (The freediver swims horizontally underwater as far as possible in a swimming pool. Any propulsion aids, other than fins or a monofin and swimming movements with the arms, are prohibited.)


All freedivers are invited to take part in qualification process, for the national team which will represent Cyprus on this year’s Aida International World Team Championships, in Kalamata, Greece in September 2016. The World Depth Championships 2015, were proudly hosted in Limassol, as part of a continuous effort to promote Cyprus as a diving destination and develop freediving as a sport. During the World Championships Evi Holroyd, achieved a Cyprus national record in the discipline FIM to the depth of 35 m.
